Mathematical Modelling, Analysis and Control of a Three to Five-Phase Matrix Converter for Minimal Switching Losses

The interest in motor drive systems with a number of phases greater than three has increased, mainly high-power industrial fields due to their advantages compared three-phase systems. In this paper, comprehensive mathematical modeling five-phase matrix converter (MC) is introduced. Besides that, the direct and indirect space vector modulation (SVM) control methods are analyzed. Furthermore, model for MC transformation between topology constructed. technique used minimum switching losses. technique, SVM deals as virtual two-stage DC link (i.e., rectifier inverter stages). voltage gain limited value 0.79. Moreover, analyze effectiveness MC, static R-L load employed. However, can also be an load, such hospital pumping or vehicular applications. presented analysis proves that gives wide range output frequencies, it ability input displacement factor magnitude. addition, absence massive capacitors essential feature resulting increased reliability reduced size converter. Eventually, experimental validation conducted on validate method. It observed good matching simulation results achieved.
